new fantasy after rings, empire goodies, and apologies...
01.22.04 (10:45 am)   [edit]
Interesting article here. It's funny how suddenly the long, dead on arrival genre of fantasy films is now consider a box office hit maker. Very weird and kinda creepy for us fantasy fans who were perfectly happy with being weird, kooky people totally obsessed about things others didn't understand.

I don't like it.

Anyway, if you are feeling the need for some actual LOTR things to look at, pick up a copy of the January issue Empire magazine, the popular English film mag. You can get it at Borders and Barnes and Nobles, I believe.

It's got some lovely single pictures of the cast with the ring. Very lovely. The Orlando picture decorated my other blog on Orlando Bloom's birthday last Tuesday.

Anyway, I'd like to apologize for the absence, Chaz has been in France for two weeks now and is having to much fun bar hopping and wine tasting to post anything.

I am just lazy and busy.

Ringwraith and Bagenders...
01.03.04 (3:23 pm)   [edit]
Taken from here!

*
Sometimes you encounter crossover or alternate-universe fanfics in which the Internet or TV or some other modern innovation (e.g., hair dryers, usually in conjunction with Pretty Elves) exists in Middle-Earth. So here's my flippant off-the-cuff list of...

Top Ten Advantages of Introducing Modern Technology to L.O.T.R.

Warning: possible spoilers.

10. Shampoo, electric razors, deodorant. Enough said. (Excepting Legolas, who doesn't appear to need these.)

9. Text message from Gandalf to Frodo: "It's OK, I'm alive. U guys in Mordor yet?"

8. Voice of Saruman could probably be shouted down with bullhorn.

7. Mithril vest for one member of Fellowship: good. Kevlar vests for all nine members of Fellowship: better.

6. Shock collar on Gollum would ensure he couldn't go sneaking ahead.

5. Cell phone call from Theoden to Eomer: "Yeah, we need you to turn around and come meet us at Helm's Deep. Right now. Oh, and bring the tank."

4. Anti-aircraft artillery very effective against flying Nazgul.

3. Shelob's Lair much easier to navigate with night-vision goggles.

2. Swords and Light of Earendil: good. Giant can of Raid sprayed directly into spider's eyes: better.

1. Attach Ring to atomic bomb. Have Gwaihir-the-eagle drop it on Mount Doom. Problem solved.

Feel free to suggest others. Granted, there would be serious disadvantages too - imagine if Sauron and Saruman got hold of heat-seeking missiles or whatnot. But this is just for fun, so let's not get too heavy

Go visit Molly Ringwraith, the author, her here...

Very very funny...she also has the condensed version of FOTR and TTT...very funny...anyway...

Tolkien's Birthday! If you haven't celebrated, do it now!

Also, Bagenders...go visit, read and join the mailing list, Tolkien Silliness...

TOLKIEN BIRTHDAY!
01.03.04 (7:45 am)   [edit]
:Chaz and Kitfox sing:

"Raise a glass to the Professor!
He's got hobbits and men,
kings who have been,
elves that a purdy,
and never get dirty,
and we'd read it all over again! Hey!

OHHHHHHHHHH!

IT'S TOLKIEN'S 111th BIRTHDAY!

Hooray!"

:do a hobbit dance:

oh my god...

is it dom and billeh or billeh and dom?
12.29.03 (10:39 pm)   [edit]
From an interview for SciFi:

Are you guys ever worried about being considered a matched set?

Monaghan: I was at a DVD award show last night for picking up The Two Towers best movie award. Someone came over to me with a photo of Billy and said, "Can you sign that?"

Boyd: And we still get it. A journalist came up to me in a junket this year ... a TV journalist, and said, "What was it like working with Miranda Otto?" And I was like, "I didn't have any scenes with Miranda." ... I said, "I think you think I'm Dom." Unbelievable.

Monaghan: I had someone come over to me last night again and say, "Congratulations on Master and Commander [in which Boyd plays a sailor]. I enjoyed it." I enjoyed it as well.

The poor dears...

um...this scares me..
12.29.03 (9:58 pm)   [edit]
I'm not quite sure what this is about, but it really scares me. Is NewLine really doing this?

God, the COMMERCIALIZED AGONY!

Anyway, very very interesting thing. Did you know that Lij is a actor, and VM is a supporting actor?

VEEEEEERY interesting...however, I think that's good, a lot of emphasis was put on battles and kingly-ness in the movie that isn't so much a factor in the books (at least in my opinion), very smart move, whoever did that.

- Chaz

[line]

I agree on the whole listing of actor/supporting actor. It does give Frodo a bit more importance that was kinda overshadowed by the battle scenes.

Yes, and, Pete, love you, but did you really have to make the Elf do so much stuff?

We understand the Elf is cool, that we should think he's awesome, that he's funny, he's always clean, we've got the sneaking suspicion he's a pansy, and that, yes, he can kick anything's puny butt and not get one bit dirty, unlike the Kingly Guy who spends the entire movie being a dirty Frenchman.

And, that stupid line! GO AWAY, STUPID LINE!

Yes, Leggs, WE GOT THAT IT WAS A DIVERSION ABOUT FOUR LINES AGO! yesh...we know that Orlando doesn't talk that much and you desperatly shove him in there all the time to get more screaming fan girls, but really, Obie's got enough already...

Leave the poor man alone!

weird things...
12.28.03 (11:58 pm)   [edit]
Found this in a old folder of pictures...very funny...but, of course, now don't remember where from...

yeah...so that's all.

Also, forgot to mention this:

As of, well, now, this blog is managed by Kitfox and Chaz.

We'd love for more people to join, and we'll try to remember to say which one of us is posting...but we're both quite forgetful...

movie and video clips and general talkage...
12.28.03 (2:44 pm)   [edit]
Go here for some good clips from ROTK and some short videos about other things to do with or about the movie. The Arms one and the one on Samwise are quite good.

Moving on...I checked some books out of the library about Tolkien and Middle-earth (basically commentary on them). Will have full report once I read them.

the true lords of the rhymes...
12.27.03 (8:53 pm)   [edit]

Go here!

NOW, I SAY!

VM is great...
12.27.03 (5:53 pm)   [edit]
"Everyone thinks [aragorn] is the man for the job, because he has humility, a concern with the consequences of his actions and words on others, and an interest in finding common ground with other people. All are qualities which I wish there were more of in real life in our modern-day leaders. There's an unfortunate lack of humility and overabundance of arrogance."

- Viggo Mortensen, frequent critic of the Bush administration and actor playing aragorn in the film versions of J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Source: Associated Press

(taken from here)

He would be a good president, kind but knows when things must be done, a really connection to the people, leads not because he wants to, but because the people want him too...

Do you think he'd be a good President?

(remember, we are talking Aragorn, not VM.)

THINGS NOT TO DO AT LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING...

1. Stand up halfway through the movie and yell loudly, "Wait... where the hell is Harry Potter?"

2. Block the entrance to the theater while screaming: "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"

3. Play a drinking game where you have to take a sip every time someone says: "The Ring."

4. Point and laugh whenever someone dies.

5. Ask everyone around you if they think Gandalf went to Hogwarts.

6. Finish off every one of Elrond's lines with "Mr. Anderson."

7. When Aragorn is crowned king, stand up and at the top of your lungs sing, "And I did it.... MY way...!"

8. Talk like Gollum all through the movie. At the end, bite off someone's finger and fall down the stairs.

9. Dress up as old ladies and reenact "The Battle of Helms Deep" Monty Python style.

10. When Denethor lights the fire, shout "Barbecue!"

11. Every time Elrond appears, shout out (in your best 'Dobby' voice) "Clothes! Master gave Elrond Clothes!"

12. In TTT when the Ents decide to march to war, stand up and shout "RUN FOREST, RUN!"

13. Every time someone kills an Orc, yell: "That's what I'm tolkien about!" See how long it takes before you get kicked out of the theatre.

14. During a wide shot of a battle, inquire, "Where's Waldo?"

15. Talk loudly about how you heard that there is a single frame of a nude Elf hidden somewhere in the movie.

16. Start an Orc sing-a-long.

17. Come to the premiere dressed as Frankenfurter and wander around looking terribly confused.

18. When they go in the paths of the dead, wait for tense moment and shout, "I see dead people!"

19. Imitate what you think a conversation between Gollum, Dobby and Yoda would be like.

20. Release a jar of daddy-long-legs into the theater during the Shelob scene.

21. Wonder out loud if Aragorn is going to run for governor of California.

22. When Shelob comes on, exclaim, "Man! Charlotte's really let herself go!"

24. After the movie, say "Lucas could have done it better."

publicity stills...
12.27.03 (2:36 pm)   [edit]
there are some new publicity stills that were given out in Wellington at theonering.net, which is an excellent site...

These are huge pictures! Perfect for a wallpaper or a photoshoping for which you need an excellent quality photo. Underneath the picture, when presented on it's own page, is a link for the original, that's the huge one.

Very very cool.

shorthand...
12.27.03 (2:27 pm)   [edit]
I use a distinct shorthand for many members of the cast which was asked to be explained...

So here goes:

Lij: Elijah Wood
Billeh: Billy Boyd
Dom: Dominic (I can't spell his last name...)
Sam: Sean Astin (partly b/c he just is Sam & partly to differentiate between him and Sean Bean)
VM /VM the Great: Viggo Mortensen
Obie: Orlando Bloom
Sean: Sean Bean
Sir Ian: Ian McKellen
Ian: Ian Holm
Pete: Peter Jackson

Otherwise people are refered to as regular, just usually only first names unless I don't talk about them much...

Any other questions, or if you'd like to tell me your silly nicknames, please direct to me...

news, notes, and crazy fans...
12.27.03 (1:54 pm)   [edit]
well, look at this, somebody asked me for LOTR stuffs already!

Yup, that's right, ask me a question and I'll try to answer. Send me a cool fact or fun picture, anything! I'll post if it's fun or I don't know about it!

So, I was asked for Lij and VM's addresses, so here ya go:

Elijah Wood
c/o Nicole David
William Morris Agency
151 El Camino Drive
Beverly Hills California 90210

Viggo Mortensen
c/o The Rawlins Company
3933 Patrick Henry Place
Agoura Hills, CA 91301

(be warned, VM has been swamped with mail, so be nice, keep it short, and not too fan girl/guy-ish)

And yes, I have written to VM. He liked my letter so much that I got one back....very cool guy, VM.

If somebody wants the other people's addresses I will attempt to find them...

hello and welcome...
12.26.03 (10:48 pm)   [edit]
this is the blog central for all things LOTR/Tolkien.

Here, I intended to post news, both book and film, on anything interesting or cool. I also am going to use this blog as an open season for people to post their opinions on LOTR things.

Eventually, after Christmas, I'd love to get in contact with some others interested in posting LOTR things and create a more community based blog...

However, after my well earned vacation...

Meanwhile, hop on over to my other blog, located on your left under "kitfox's blog" scroll down a post and download Pip's song from ROTK...

Amazing...
